Pirates right-hander Ian Snell is African-American. He does not speak Spanish. Yet, when he started for Puerto Rico on Monday night, few things in the World Baseball Classic seemed more right.
Snell, 27, is representing Puerto Rico to honor Juan Davila, who raised him in Delaware from the time he was 2, living with and later marrying the pitcher’s mother.
And he just snared a groundball bare-handed to end the second inning.
